What is a good, = to or > 1000 people, futuristic, player-run, free, MMORPG?

Yeah, I know. That sounds like a pretty frickin' tall order! However, I want to play a good futuristic MMORPG with my friend, that isn't like Face of Mankind with only 150 players, and only 15 of them on at a time or so. It's really sad, and while I absolutely love their concept, I'm not too happy with playing it with minimal people. So, what is a good, more than 1000+ people, futuristic, player-run, free, MMORPG that is great and fun to play?
