Off the Wall Wine Question?

If I open a bottle to smell it and then recap or recork it, does it effect the wine at all? I have a little collection of wine that my girlfriend and I drink on weekends but I get curios during the week so if I were to open one, take a sniff and a little taste then cap it again for the weekend, would that effect anything?
