Schedule/routines for your baby?

i am asking for you advise and opion about how important to you is it that your baby has a daily routine and im wondering how stricked you are at keeping it and if someone said somthing to you about it negativly what would you say....i have my son on a daily routine/scheduale with his feedings and sleep and my in laws seem to think that we are nuts for doing it we are always getting comments about it.
