Concealed carry guns?
Go 9mm. I have taken a few CCW courses and advanced personal protection courses taught by police officers and they won't let you in the door without a minimum 9mm gun. They believe that .380s jam too easy under limp wristing (real street experience). I carry a 38 special or a .45 ACP on a regular basis. If you are looking for something easy to work and easy to conceal look at the SW 637. Its +p rated and adequate for self defense. Anyone who, in self defense, doesn't shoot to kill usually gets killed or beat badly. There was a guy locally who tried to only wound a home invader who came in through his basement window. The guy grazed the attacker and couldn't get off another shot before he was beat so bad he ended up in a coma. No one found him for days because he was unable to crawl out of his basement. 9mm, 38 special, 40, 357sig, 45 acp, 44 special, 44mag, 357mag are all good rounds to consider. Walther PPK has a storied past about jamming. Best to read up on that one more. Consider the SW 637 first, but if you hate revolvers look at the Springfield XD line or Glock or Sig line of semi autos.
